Music Lessons
There are few things in life more rewarding than music-making - whether writing your own songs or playing in a symphony orchestra.
Contrary to popular belief, learning an instrument has less to do with talent and more to do with continual exposure, effort and enjoyment. With a little effort to establish regular and frequent practising, progress soon makes learning hugely enjoyable. The enjoyment makes the effort easier, and so another musician takes off…
Diane began sharing her deep-rooted passion for music when she took her first pupil twenty years ago - and has been teaching continuously since 2008.
Lessons are student-focussed and cover a broad range of skills accordingly, including instrumental technique, listening, reading, writing and improvising.
Subjects Offered
Instrumental lessons - Violin or Piano
Students are encouraged to make a termly commitment for instrumental lessons in order to maximise benefit. Instrumental study is approached with the long view in mind, with Theory and Aural included as they are integral parts of a balanced musical education. The right time to start learning an instrument depends upon several factors; contact me to discuss your particular circumstances or to request further information.
Theory and Aural lessons
For people who need extra coaching in either Theory or Aural in order to meet certain grade exam requirements, specialist lessons are available.
Opportunities I provide
All instrumental students are encouraged to participate in regular Student Concerts, which are informal opportunities to share their work with their friends, family, and fellow students, as well as catching up with a piece of cake or three during the post-performance refreshments. These concerts are included in the lesson fees, since performance opportunities are an important part of learning music.
Students are equally encouraged to take ABRSM grade exams as and when they reach the appropriate standard. Taking exams is not mandatory, however, and it is also possible to take higher grades without having taken lower grades in many cases. Participation in public music festivals is also recommended for more advanced players. Piano accompaniment for students’ violin grade exams is provided, usually free of charge.
Accompaniment for external student grade exams is also available; contact me to discuss your requirements.
